***More detailed information below***
Located southwest of Brevard along Rosman Highway (U.S. 64), this Transylvania County town sits atop several major natural and manmade intersections. Its location has made the town the perfect spot for scientific research, outdoor recreation, and building a tight-knit community.
When you list the top things to do in Rosman, NC, you have to mention at least a handful of outdoor activities. Rosman sits on the eastern boundary of Pisgah National Forest’s 88,000 protected acres. So the area offers easy access to some of the best hiking, fishing, mountaintop views, and waterfalls in the region. The forest is also home to the Cradle of Forestry, a 6,500-acre heritage site and interpretive center that represents the birth of the conservation movement in the United States.
Among the highlights of the surrounding area are Sassafras Mountain and Courthouse Falls. Located just along the South Carolina line, Sassafras Mountain has a 3,353-foot observation deck. In addition to serving as the highest point in SC, the deck also affords visitors an awe-inspiring view of both adjoining states, as well as Georgia in the distance. In the other direction from town, Courthouse Falls offer a more down-to-earth view. The 45-foot waterfall is located just a short hike from pull-off parking (0.7 miles round trip). And the deep pool into which it plunges is perfect for a dip on a hot day.
Located right in the heart of it all, Rosman offers the best of both worlds. In just 20 minutes, you can reach Brevard, and in less than an hour, you can explore the vibrant city of Asheville, or enjoy the charming towns of The Highlands and Ski Resorts. In addition, a short drive will take you to the serene Lake Jocasse and Lake Toxaway. With endless opportunities for fishing, hiking, camping, and more, Rosman is truly a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts.
Less than a quarter mile outside town limits is arguably one of the most significant confluences in the Southeast. It’s at this spot that North Fork French Broad River meets West Fork French Broad River to become the ancient and mighty French Broad. At 218 miles in length, the French Broad River bisects Rosman and flows north through much of Western North Carolina before discharging into the Tennessee River.
The French Broad flows through a number of wilderness areas, each with its own unique microclimate and wildlife. More than 10 species of rare fish and three rare mussels are found in the river, and it’s the only river basin that’s home to the distinctive Eastern spiny softshell turtle. Ecologists and outdoors enthusiasts alike enjoy studying the local wildlife in and along the river. If you’d like to see where it all begins, you have to start in Rosman at Headwaters Outfitters. Their family-friendly outings are designed to get everyone out in the water, or you can hang back at their taproom and just enjoy the view.
Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute (PARI) is located a few miles northwest of town limits. Though established as a nonprofit organization in 1998, PARI’s site traces its history back to 1962 when it was an East Coast NASA satellite tracking facility. The site was built as part of the worldwide Spacecraft Tracking and Data Acquisition Network. And it served as an integral communications link for the Gemini and Apollo manned space programs, supporting each of the moon landings.
Today, PARI is a protected astronomical site with more than 30 buildings, four radio telescopes of various sizes, a high frequency Jupiter-Io/Solar antenna, 12 optical telescopes, five weather and atmospheric monitoring stations, and various environmental monitoring instruments. Visitors come to PARI for hands-on educational and research opportunities across a broad swath of STEM disciplines. But researchers continue to come to the site for much more! PARI’s research is utilized by universities in a multi-state area, and the location is home to the Astronomical Photographic Data Archive (APDA).
Tesla charger installed. A vehicle is needed to get around. The roads in the community are gravel and have inclines and declines as we are in the mountains. While accessible by most vehicles (guests have gone to the house in a convertible Mustang) it is suggested to have front wheel drive, AWD or 4x4 if there is potential for snow. Please be courteous of neighbors and allow oncoming traffic to pass on the neighborhood roads when they narrow.

Amenities
While the location was beautiful we did have a few issues. The downstairs bathroom was inoperable, a plumber was sent out two times and on the second visit let us know that it was a plumbing issue farther in the pipe and advised us to no longer use it as it would keep over flowing. This was an issue as for two of the four nights we had a total of 14 guests/relatives. The paddle boat was broken and could not be used without taking an oar out, it was also filled with water upon arrival but thankfully we were able to get some of the boys to clear that out for us. The biggest set back was that the sauna did not work when we arrived. This had been something quite a few of the guests were excited for, and disappointed that we didn’t have access to it our whole stay. The host was very responsive which was nice, and when one of our pets got out of his crate and locked himself in the bottom room (there was only one key, which was in the room) they did get a locksmith out within 3 hours. If you are looking for a peaceful getaway in the mountains then this is the place for you. If you like games or if your children like games, then there will be plenty to do without leaving the house. The fire pit by the lake side is a relaxing getaway from the house if you need a break or a great place to sit and roast marshmallows with the whole family.
Overall, great house and excellent host. Always responsive with clear instructions and available 24/7 to answer any questions you may have! Absolutely stunning view and home! Our experience at the Treetop Lakehouse was excellent. It met all of our needs and then some. The space is beautiful, comfortable, and clean, with many lovely design touches. It truly is set back in the woods, with a fantastic view of the lake. The amenities in the house are excellent (hot tub, sauna, massage chair, Nespresso and Keurig pods provided by the host, new smart TVs in literally every room, pool, ping pong, and more). Harshad was a fantastic host and incredibly responsive. He responded to all my messages very quickly, always providing the information I needed and working to make our stay the best it could be.
One important note: it's a must that your car have four wheel drive. The final two miles to the house are truly a backcountry road: one lane, gravel, and steep with twists and turns. We went in January and got unlucky that it snowed as we arrived. We wouldn't have made it up to the house without four wheel drive.
Highly recommend the house!
